We all know how serious childhood obesity can be. In the last 10 years, the number of obese children has almost tripled, and this is something that we all need to take incredibly seriously. Childhood obesity and obesity in general in fact has been called an epidemic by the World Health Organization, which just goes to show you what a serious subject this has become.

In the past, many people thought that overeating was the only cause of childhood and other obesity, but this is actually not the case. There are a number of different childhood obesity causes, a few of the most common which will be discussed here in more detail.

Causes Of Childhood Obesity - The Internet

This is one of the most common childhood obesity causes. When you think back to when you were a child, you realize that the Internet was not such a major thing if it was even around at all, and so we as children had to find other ways to bide our time. We were outside playing, running around, having fun.

Kids today spend so much time on their computer that this only makes sense as being one of the main factors in terms of childhood obesity causes. Children are simply not getting out and exercising their bodies enough, and instead are melting away in front of their computers.

Causes Of Childhood Obesity - Poor Diet

Another of the main childhood obesity causes is related to a poor diet. Kids are not getting the nutrition that they need these days, and instead are chowing back fattening, deep fried foods. Think of how many kids go to McDonalds and similar fast food joints on a regular basis, and you can see why so many of them would be overweight.

Causes Of Childhood Obesity - Genetics

Genetics also plays a major role in the issue of childhood obesity, and is considered as being one of the main childhood obesity causes. If the parent of the child is overweight, or there is a family medical history of obesity, the child is that much more prone to becoming overweight themselves.

Not only is obesity dangerous to the child while they are young, but it can also develop into much more serious health conditions that you should be aware of. Psychological problems, breathing disorders, bone and joint disorders, high cholesterol, and gall bladder disease are just a few examples of the conditions that your child may end up having to deal if their obesity is uncontrolled or left untreated.
