When it comes to the overall health and well being of your children, a lot of people seem to
overlook weight in a child.
Some people will just brush off a heavy child as having baby fat, but the fact of the matter
is that childhood obesity is a real thing and it is not just baby fat that we are dealing with.
The problems that come along with having a child who is over weight are real and they are
extremely dangerous. On average, it is said that more then fifth teen percent of all school aged children are
considered over weight or suffering from childhood obesity.
The dangers that come with having a child who falls within the childhood obesity scale is
extreme as the extra weight that they are carrying could have them end up with diabetes.
There is also the issue of developing sleep apnea, which that in it could produce a whole other
list of medical issues that will need to be addressed. Also, it has been seen that about seventy percent of those
who are in the childhood obesity range will become obese adults making what some people just want to refer to as
baby fat a long-term problem.
Childhood Obesity - Things You Can Do To Help Your Child
While you cannot save the world from childhood obesity, you can help your child remain healthy.
It is said that most children, on average spend about three or more hours watching television on a daily basis.
The recommended amount is no more then one or two hours of total television time for the entire
day. If your child is watching a lot of television, then they are not moving around enough and could end up a child
suffering from childhood obesity. Turn off the television and play with your child and get him or her involved in
some sports so that they will remain active.
The most important thing in fighting childhood obesity in your home is to set a good example. If
all you want to do is eat junk food and sit around watching the television then it is likely that this sort of
behavior is what your children will do.
Set a good example for your child and get active and maintain a healthy diet. By working
together, playing together, and eating together, you are helping to make sure that your child does not end up
suffering from childhood obesity.
