Single parenting coping has become a mountain for many climbers and non-climbers, alike.

Many changes in all spheres of life have taken place in the last few decades and have resulted in seemingly insurmountable challenges for children of all ages.

This has impacted heavily on single parenting coping in an ever-increasing number of ways.

Let's take a look at some of these ...

Single Parenting Coping - Some Of The Challenges

Drugs and alcohol have become the norm to teenagers and even pre-teens. The changing views about discipline have brought confusion, disorder and rebellion.

Technology with all its wonderful advances has some downsides in the subsequent proliferation of easily accessible pornography and the predating pedophiles that have an easy path to unsuspecting children.

The snowballing number of divorces of yesteryear has helped to lead to the breakdown of family values in society and as a result, the problems of single parenting coping have become a commonplace subject - and even a regular debate topic debate in schools!

Single Parenting Coping - Solution

There are several things we can do to combat the single parenting coping challenge. Before embroiling ourselves in specifics, we need to face the problem head-on - as individual single parents and as a community and take the time and effort to look at it from all angles and brainstorm for strategies to bring about happy single parenting coping.

Almost anything can be fixed. Of course it is easier if all parties are on the same page, and that includes the children. Once we have created a strategy (which will probably be modified every time we apply it!) we need to look at specifics.

As a community we should promote family values and strengthen the family unit in whatever small ways we can. Particularly as individuals we need to become as informed as we possibly can, in all of the issues involved in each specific circumstance, such as knowing the effects and signs of children taking drugs and drinking alcohol and knowing where our children really are, and what they really think and what they really do and what sort of people our children are mixing with.

We need to avoid panic and/or anger and/or frustration and imbibe a feeling of calmness before we think then talk then act. We must try to understand the viewpoint of the child, yet not indulge him/her to his/her detriment. It is easy enough to love one’s own children, but one of the greatest gifts we can give them is to help them develop into people that everyone else will love.

The issue of single parenting coping will never disappears, but with time, optimism and faith in the intrinsically good intentions of the human race, it could fade in into just another issue of the day.
