If you want to impart a Christian parenting style to your children, home schooling may be good
option for you.
This is because, fortunately or unfortunately, the laws of the United States of America do not
allow state and church to mix and hence religion is not taught in schools.
Let's examine this issue in a little more detail ...
Christian Parenting - Faith and Academics
Under the Clinton Directive in 1995, schools can teach about religion in social studies classes
and the like but they can not teach religion per se. Hence, advocates of Christian parenting and other faiths as
well often contemplate to resort to home schooling so that they can provide their children with a well rounded
education with academics, extra curricular activities as well as faith based knowledge.
The Son Light education curriculum is very popular among home schoolers and one reason for this
is it integrates Christianity with academics. Faith education is some times the number one reason cited by parents
to home school their children.
Other reasons include but are not limited to dissatisfaction with the public school system,
private schools being too expensive, violence and negative peer pressure in schools and a more personalized
approach to your child’s education.
If you are in favor of Christian parenting and do not think that Sunday school for a few hours a
week makes a big difference, try out home schooling in the summer and see if it sits you and your kids.
One parent will need to be home full time if you plan on home schooling and while a college
degree is not a must, different states have different regulations as far as home schooling is concerned.
Christian Parenting - Beyond Lessons
You can ask your church if they recommend a particular curriculum for Christian parenting home
schooling or you can look online for support groups. Do not be surprised if some like minded Christian parenting
school of thought families live in your area. You can then work together to instill the moral values you want in
your children while still letting them have the social time they need.
Home schooling is no longer just about sitting around the kitchen table doing lessons. Whether
you take the Christian parenting approach or not, thanks to the internet, the learning process is more hands-on now
with audio visual supplements to books, lots of field trips, music, art, sports and the like.
Christian parents and other home schooling parents often utilize the resources at the local park
districts for gym, science labs and other such activities that they may not be able to provide in a home
setting.
