Balancing Parenting Roles And Professional Careers

With proper planning, you will be able to balance both your parenting and professional career ...

Both you and your spouse are excited at the prospect of becoming new parents.

You will both be getting some time off after the baby is born, but after that it is back to work.

The two of you are worried how much time you will get to spend with your child.

However, with proper planning, you will be able to balance both parenting as well as your careers.

Parenting Is A Career Within Itself

There is a reason why there are stay-at-home parents, and that is because parenting is a lifelong commitment that really is a career too. However, neither of you want to quit your careers, so you are going to have to have some childcare help. First of all, if you work in an office building, see if there is a daycare program that allows you to visit your child during you lunch break.

If this is not something that is available, the next thing that you should look into is whether a member of the family can help share some of your parenting duties. This is an ideal situation, because not only are you placing your child into the care of people you know well, but you are also allowing your child to form strong relationships with your family.

Unfortunately, some parents do not have the option of having their children taken care of by family members. So, the next parenting decision you will have to make is whether or not you want a daycare to take care of your child, or a nanny.

Nannies are thought of as a luxury, since the one-on-one care can get expensive. However, the child can be taken care of at home without the risk of catching colds from many children, as they would in a daycare.

Whichever method you choose, it is important to make sure that you spend a lot of time with your child. A parenting idea you can implement is making sure that you make a family day at least one day of the week. On this day, you devote all your time to the child.

Another idea is, as the child gets older, to consider working from home, if you have such a job that would permit you to do so. This allows you to pick the child up from school, and also allows you more flexibility in terms of parent-child quality time. Remember, as much as you might worry about your job, it is nowhere near as important as raising your child.
