Progesterone plays a vital role in creating a fertile environment for conception and constant growth of the embryo ...
Progesterone is an important female hormone, which is considered very essential for a successful conception and a problem free pregnancy. This hormone plays a vital role in creating a fertile environment for conception and constant growth of the embryo.
Progesterone fertility may be referred to the secretion of progesterone by the corpus luteum for preparing endometrium needed for implantation of the fertilized egg. After the implantation of the egg, the placenta produces progesterone during pregnancy to avert rejection of the developing fetus. Thus, progesterone has a significant role in fertility. The advantages of progesterone are as follows:
- It assists in creating a fertile environment in the womb and ensures continued existence of the fertilized egg via healthy implantation.
- Not only strengthens but also maintains the secretory endometrium that is responsible for sustaining the fetus during the entire pregnancy period.
- The early shedding of the secretory endometrium is prevented.
Besides all these, progesterone acts as secretory in the reproductive organs. Changes in the uterus that comprises progesterone sensitive tissue are stimulated by it. It also provides support to pregnancy as blood vessel development in the endometrium is increased.
Progesterone and Fertility
Levels of progesterone during a woman’s cycle elevates at a pace at ovulation with a purpose to provide a fertile environment to the fertilized egg. It also leads to the increase in temperature of body at ovulation. Ovulation process continues for most of the luteal phase. The corpus luteum continuously creates progesterone for number of days after starting with ovulation. The related increase in temperature is taken and recorded frequently in fertility charting.
Once the process of fertilization and implantation is over, the placenta performs the function of creating progesterone. It is done to maintain a supportive environment for growth of embryo. However, it must be taken into notice that considerable fall in progesterone levels during the first 10 to 12 weeks of pregnancy may lead to miscarriage.
Progesterone is helpful in progesterone fertility. On the other hand, it is progesterone infertility that is caused due to either excess of estrogen or a deficiency of progesterone. Thus, progesterone may be called as the hormone of fertility and pregnancy. Infertility can be defined as incapability to conceive after a year or more of regular intercourse during the time of ovulation.
Actually, if there is not a sufficient level of progesterone in the body, in that case, it will be difficult for a woman to conceive and she may experience progesterone infertility. Besides this, progesterone is also responsible for creating the uterine wall to implant the fertilized egg.
Thus, it can be concluded that deficiency or absence of progesterone in woman diminishes the capability of getting pregnant and may result in infertility.

Fertility Facts & Tips
When it comes to ovulation, men are typically unable to tell when a woman is ovulating. Unlike the animal kingdom, males must rely on the female to let him know when ovulation is occurring so they can have intercourse in order to reproduce. Just before ovulation, the female often notices cervical changes, such as an increase in mucous production. The female also has an increase in body temperature which signals the beginning of the ovulation phase. In some cases, a female might even experience a heightened sense of smell as well as a stronger libido just before ovulation.
