The Role Of Guaifenesin In Addressing Fertility Issues

Guaifenesin helps cervical mucus to become thinner, which assists the active sperm to enter into the cervix ...

Guaifenesin is a common ingredient basically used for cough medications.

Guaifenesin reduces the chest blockage. Thus, a cough and cold patient also gets rid of such chronic suffering. But prescribed consumption of Guaifenesin can also help to overcome infertility.

One can realize the effectiveness of this unique ingredient, when you understand that guaifenesin helps cervical mucus to become thinner, which assists the active sperm to enter into the cervix.

Guaifenesin is taken by women if they notice cervical mucus. However, women taking guaifenesin for the purpose of thinning the cervical mucus must make sure that it is plain and without any other ingredients, as some of the ingredients may actually increase the cervical mucus, thus neutralizing the desired effect.

Important Information for Effective Results

To get the best out of guaifenesin, lots of meals in liquid form should be taken so that one can get rid of chest congestion easily and quickly. Instead of crushing or chewing, patients are always advised to swallow if it is in form of tabloids. But in case of capsules, it should be swallowed as a whole, otherwise the contents can be mixed up with any soft foods and gulped at the same time. To ensure the optimum quantity of intake, use a dose measuring spoon or cup in lieu of the usual tablespoon.

Though a missed dose does not affect a lot, overdoses may lead to unexpected suffering. So if you skip a scheduled dose, remember to take it as soon as you remember. In any situation, you should avoid two doses at the same time. If the medicine is kept away from moisture, heat and sunlight, it will certainly prove to be more effective.

Drawbacks of Guaifenesin

There are instant or gradual problems that a patient may suffer when taking guaifenesin. Symptoms can include headaches, skin rashes, stomach pain, diarrhea, hives, dizziness and vomiting. Though all these problems are not necessarily bound to happen as a side effect at a time, one should always be aware of such possibilities. Again, a pregnant woman always bears a risk, as there is no surety about its effectiveness to an unborn baby.

Some researchers believe that Guaifenesin can easily travel into breast milk, thus exposing newborn babies to risks. Children below two years of age are advised to avoid consuming any medicine having Guaifenesin as an ingredient. Because of some chemical characteristics, it may cause unconsciousness.

Restricted throats, difficulty in breathing and swelling in the tongue, lips or face are other common signs that have been experienced and reported as a side effect of Guaifenesin. It is always advisable to follow proper medical guidance to avoid any problems. If, when following medical advice, a patient experiences any physical discomfort, he or she should stop taking the medicine and consult their doctor immediately.
