Today, there are many types of infertility treatment procedures that can help couples who are trying to conceive, yet cannot. Some infertility issues can be corrected easily with medications or minor surgery. There are, however, other problems that take much more time and effort to correct. With these types of issues, the patient may face more intricate surgical procedures or may undergo assisted conception. While infertility issues can make an individual feel alienated, it is important to know that around 20% of couples find that they have trouble becoming pregnant after trying for just one year.

When a women's body does not ovulate on a normal cycle, it can be hard to become pregnant. If ovulating is an issue, during the time when a couple is trying to conceive, then medications may be used as a form of infertility treatment. Ovulating occurs when the ovaries produce and release the egg to be fertilized during conception. If a woman is not able to ovulate correctly, then she may be a candidate for the use of medications to stimulate the ovaries and produce the hormones responsible for ovulation to happen.

Other types of infertility treatment require surgical procedures. While surgical procedures do not cure every infertility issue, they can help in several situations. Women who have had their tubes tied in the past as a means of contraception can have them reversed, in order to become pregnant. In some cases, the fallopian tubes may be blocked or scarred. This can happen because of infections, a prior disease and many other factors. It is sometimes possible to remove the blockage or repair the scaring, which will hopefully allow the patient to conceive. There are also different surgical procedures that can help male infertility. The third group of treatments falls under the assisted conception category. This category contains several different techniques including intrauterine insemination, intracytoplasmic sperm injection and in vitro fertilization.

Whether any of these procedures will work is dependent on a few factors. These factors include the health of the patient, the age and how badly the body is affected by the problems causing the infertility issues. While it is true that not every infertility treatment will be successful, medicine and medical procedures have progressed sufficiently in the past few years. Women who were once told that they may never be able to conceive are now able to have children. Timing of course is another issue, while women of a larger age span are now able to produce children with the help of fertility specialists. If an individual believes there is an issue, then that they see a doctor to retrieve a correct diagnosis.
