An Overview Of The Guaifenesin Mechanism
By Parenting Editor
As far as guaifenesin pregnancy is concerned, guaifenesin is considered as a category C pregnancy drug. In this article, we examine the benefits of guaifenesin in a variety of medical uses and its association with promoting fertility ...
Guaifenesin is considered beneficial in breaking up the mucus in a patient’s chest during coughing so as to make the patient cough properly. It is good as in this way the patient will be able to cough up more of the mucus. Ultimately, the cough may decrease with clearing of the mucus. However, it may not prove effective to patients with common cold symptoms.
As far as guaifenesin pregnancy is concerned, guaifenesin is considered as a category C pregnancy drug. Compared to other over-the-counter drugs, intense research has not been performed on guaifenesin. It is considered that there is a probable association between guaifenesin exposure and the incidence of inguinal hernias.
Guaifenensin is not recommended to patients who have a chronic cough. This cough may be due to asthma, cigarette smoking, chronic bronchitis or use of angiotensin-converting enzyme. Luckily, emphysema chronic bronchitis and heart failure are not commonly found in women who are at the age of conceiving.
Guaifenesin is an expectorant and it is taken orally. It does not possess any antitussive effects. Though its proper functioning is not yet known, it is believed to reduce thickness of respiratory tract secretions. It also proves helpful in the bringing up of phlegm from the airways in case of acute respiratory tract infections. Other than this, guaifenesin also assists in the one experimental treatment, which is guaifenesin protocol for fibromyalgia. It is properly absorbed from the GI (gastrointestinal) tract while about 60 percent of guaifenesin is hydrolyzed in blood.
However, it must be noted that high levels of guaifenesin can result in vomiting. This expectorant is recommended by physicians to clear mucus from the lungs. The mucus is cleared with its use, as the mucus gets thin. Guaifenesin also lubricates the irritating respiratory tract. Due to guaifenesin, water is drawn into the bronchi. Thus, the water not only thins mucus, but also makes the removal of mucus easy via coughing.
According to a study, the association between use of guaifenesin during first trimester and probability of fetus hernia has been noticed; however, others have not pointed any such clue about any risk of fetal malfunctions. Thus, it is highly recommended that guaifenesin should be taken during pregnancy only under the strict advice of a physician. Its use is advisable only after the physician feels that the usage of guaifenesin has more benefits over any unpredictable risks.
Being a category C drug, it does not seem to have any genetic or pregnancy risks involved in its use. During guaifenesin pregnancy, most of the physicians prefer to advise one ingredient medicine, instead of medicine that is a blend of various ingredients. Thus, physicians recommend patients to use plain guaifenesin instead of other drugs containing other ingredients for treating other causes.

Fertility Facts & Tips
When it comes to ovulation, men are typically unable to tell when a woman is ovulating. Unlike the animal kingdom, males must rely on the female to let him know when ovulation is occurring so they can have intercourse in order to reproduce. Just before ovulation, the female often notices cervical changes, such as an increase in mucous production. The female also has an increase in body temperature which signals the beginning of the ovulation phase. In some cases, a female might even experience a heightened sense of smell as well as a stronger libido just before ovulation.
